Thai Belly Pads

The Thai belly pad or often called the Thai Belly Protector is an interesting piece of equipment peculiar to Muay Thai Boxing.  It is a large usually leather pad that is strapped to the coaches waist to cover the abdominal area of the body and absorb the shock from the front kick, knee strikes and roundhouse kicks of the Thai boxer striking the pads. 

Thai Belly protectors are usually used in conjunction with Thai kick pads to allow a full range of punches, kicks and knee strikes during training.  They are a different design entirely to the boxing body shields more commonly seen in western boxing gyms and are used quite differently.

Thai Belly pads come in a variety of sizes which should be matched against the size of the person wearing it.  The fastenings can either be Velcro or buckle design and you can chose from a variety of styles such as the Top King Pro Belly pad, Twins Special belly pad or the excellent MTG Belly pad.
