There are two basic varieties - competition and sparring gloves. MMA fighters use fingerless boxing gloves to allow a full range of grips and holds. The MMA glove size is much smaller and lighter than equivalent boxing gloves, designed primarily to protect the hand during striking rather than to lower the impact of the blow on your opponent. The mixed martial arts competition gloves are the smallest at just 4oz and usually available in a standard format, compared to the larger 6oz version for sparring which come in a variety of designs.

The best MMA gloves are made from quality cowhide leather and refine areas such as the thumb and finger cuffs, wrist straps and padding over the knuckles.
